E-Commerce Tips for a Small Business

More and more businesses are moving online- E-Commerce. And there are more incentives to do so everyday.  Online shops present huge opportunities for new budding Irish Start-ups with bright business ideas, as well as for already existing off-line businesses in Ireland who want to reach new markets, both Nationally and Abroad, The increase in online retail in the consumer market will be followed very quickly by business to business.  And companies are making it easier. Sage themselves now no longer ship physical software product to us, we get all our Sage Accounting  (Sage 50c) and payroll (Micropay) software online, making delivery quicker and easier.

Top Tips for E-Commerce:

  • Hire a Professional.  Don’t even imagine that it’s easy or that you can google how to do it.  Buyers are increasingly more selective about buying online and are far more likely to purchase from a website that looks good and functions well. Prepare to spend at the start in order to save money and more importantly for a small business, time, in the long run.  In addition, freeing yourself from the initial design and set-up also allows you to focus on other important aspects of getting the online business off the ground. Setting up an E-Commerce business, even a few years ago was costly and time consuming as it was most likely going to be a bespoke product, not very suitable for small businesses in Ireland.  But now it is a more competitive field, with help available from the Local Enterprise Office through their online trading scheme.
  • Know your Customer, both Existing and Potential.  As we said, if you don’t currently have an online business you are reaching into a new market. Know their age, their gender, where they originate from, their hobbies, interests, what websites they like to visit, what their job is, their online buying habits and how many times a day they go online. This will make it so much easier to market to your customers.  And Yes, this seems like a lot, but a simple e-survey with a possible incentive, as in a prize, or voucher, can go a long way to sweetening the deal.
  • Be Social.  Reach them through the market you want to join, for example, if your business is Business to Consumer, Facebook is probably your medium of choice. If you are selling very visual products, try Instagram.  Have a look at our blog on Social Media to get you started.  If you intend to run an online anything you need to have an active presence on some or all of the main social media platforms. Sign up and secure your business name as soon as possible. Social media is a way to engage with your audience and share information with them on a constant basis.  Choose your platform wisely, I find the easiest way to do this is to look at the age demographic. I feel Social Media allows our brand and business to be creative and show personality, which for a customer, could be the difference between you and your competitor, and you want to drive them to your E-Commerce site as easily as possible.
  • Link your Systems. As far as possible the switch to E-Commerce should be easier and more cost effective in the long run, therefore it makes sense to link your Sales through your E-Commerce site directly to your accounts, Eliminating the need for double administration. We partner with Actinic, a one stop shop (excuse the pun) to get your E-Commerce platform off the ground. Talk to your designer and us about this at any stage, but make sure it is sooner than later, we can help.  Contact us on 1850-202502, or by email.

What to look for in a Support Contract

Questions to Ask Yourself to Help Establish if Your Company Should be Taking a Pimbrook Support Contract:

  • Are Sage software problems impairing your business?
  • Are your accounts/ payroll employees spending too much time fixing problems and not attending to business?
  • Is testing of your software draining your resources?
  • Is report design taking-up too much of your time?
  • Are you having a problem keeping up with or ahead of your competitors because your staff are too busy resolving your internal admin issues?
  • Do you need to lower your expenses/ resource costs to help with your competitive edge? But are not sure how to go about it?
  • Do you feel like your users are unhappy with your current software support staff?
  • Is your company growing rapidly and you can’t manage to increase productivity with the speed of your current system?
  • You need to move your accounting or payroll software solutions to another software platform and the staff learning curve is going to take an unacceptable length of time?

Scalability : Can your warehouse software grow with your business?

Scalability.

The 21st century’s term for basic, frugal common sense. But, it actually means much more for expanding new businesses and established companies that need to adjust their costs according to the fluctuations in the global and national economic climate.

Scalable technology helps prevent costly wastes. Software applications designed to enhance productivity and reduce supply chain maintenance expense are an effective resource for many SMBs, but can present problems if the software isn’t designed to adapt to the business success it creates. And this can be particularly problematic for distribution or manufacturing companies that operate with high volumes of inventory with very slim margins.

Scalable Software 101

Scalable software typically refers to in-house business applications such as finances, inventory management, and CRM programmes that are able to adjust to expanding data amounts or an increased number of users. And this is extremely crucial for warehouse software.

Essentially what starts with a limited amount of space and usable resources adapts as your business grows, and changes as new demands become necessary for maintaining operations. For example, with scalable warehouse management software, your company can achieve the benefits of streamlined workflows through real-time information, but avoid paying for large amounts of database presence until you actually need it.

Static Dangers

In today’s mobile society, using static systems to perform business requirements costs your company time, money, and outreach potential. With a static software model, once you’ve achieved your short-term goals, the company must purchase brand new applications and repeat the training process.

Moreover, in today’s fluctuating business environment, just leaving well enough alone can spell disaster. If you’re not moving forward to meet growing demands your business can stagnate, suffer, and fail.

Scalable Designs

When considering warehouse software for your business there are a few things to keep in mind. Scalable designs should feature:

  • Flexible inclusion for inventory based businesses
  • Inventory management techniques that adapt to meet changing demands
  • Embedded development for your specific uses (such as touch screen kiosks, electronic counting, etc.)
  • Expansive abilities that include purchasing, shipping, customer, and vendor data

You can orchestrate profitable growth when your warehouse software features cross-platform solutions that incorporate the various aspects involved in your inventory intensive business. A scalable model that includes the critical elements of customer and procurement orders, inventory control techniques, and intuitive reporting and analysis capacity can save large amounts of capital expenditure and grow right along with your business needs.

Although there are limits to every type of hardware and software design, by integrating scalable warehouse software, you can ensure that you’ve purchased long-term solutions for your business.

Change is good

Sometimes we fear change, Better the devil you know and all that. But sometimes change can be a good thing.
Be it changing an eating habit, taking up a sport or learning an instrument.

And I think change is better in stages.  For example I’d like to run a marathon, but can’t start out running 10 miles without ever having run before, or, for that matter, without the right shoes!

And it’s the same in business.  To be fair it’s nearly harder.  As most of the time it’s hard earned cash that you have to part with to make change, not just changing from full fat to low fat milk.

So that’s where we come in.  Pims specialise in making both the decision easier and the journey less arduous.  Let us put on the running shoes for you.  We’ve run a lot of these marathons in our time.

Call us today for details on our December offers for ALL our Sage Accounting and Payroll software. And sure come for a run on Tramore strand if you want.
